      • ... in year 7
      • The two G8 groups in year 7 have been exploring London over the first few weeks of their school year. The students started with looking at some of the sights in London that they were already familiar with and wrote down some questions about London that they wanted to find the answers to.

We spent some time talking about some of the films set in London before we read about four famous sights. The students wrote and presented discussions about the advantages and disadvantages of the various sights and had to agree on which sight they wanted to see the most and why.

The students gave each other directions using a London underground map and imagined and practiced doing a bit of translation on a station platform. They enjoyed watching and talking about a short video about the bus route number 11 and reading a story about a girl who got lost at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Our theme of London was finished with the presentations about what you can do for free in London. Each student prepared and delivered a presentation about their chosen activity or sight. They voted on where they wanted to go. The only thing that we still had to do was to go back to the questions that we wrote down at the beginning of the course and make sure that they were all answered. The students have put their questions together in the following blog:

All of this was naturally done with the help of the students’ text book, access 3, and their English teacher Mr. Wells, who grew up in a Kentish town about 17 miles away from London.
